We had the privilege of putting together this Corporate Incentive for APBCO Insurance Brokers. When the client first contacted us, their idea was to celebrate their 35th Birthday weekend with a barbeque at Arabella Hotel & Spa. This is a big milestone in any company. So, we suggested that a black and white Gatsby-inspired Gala celebration would be more suited to the occasion.

It didn’t take too much convincing and the client loved the idea. We presented mood boards and plenty of visuals to the client. And they gave us the go-ahead to start planning. So, the initial barbeque idea became a weekend corporate incentive celebration with a Gala dinner for 80 guests! Each of the guests stayed in the beautiful Arabella Hotel & Spa. Here they could enjoy the beauty Hermanus has to offer.

For the Friday evening’s festivities, we decorated a Bedouin tent with naked bulbs. Rectangular tables were covered with sand-coloured tablecloths. A subtle hint of African elements was added to create an informal evening for guests to relax. This low-key event was held at Wildekrans. A beautiful setting with rich and lush foliage, and vineyards, surrounding the area. This was, of course, the build-up to the gala dinner to be held on the following evening.

The Gatsby Gala Evening

Saturday was the big day and it was all hands on deck. We started with set up at 07h30 and very soon the big open space was created into a Gatsby lounge. The space was utilised to the full. A stage, which we covered with Persian rugs, was installed. We also installed a truss onto the stage. Delicate crystal chandeliers suspended from chains – very industrial, but a beautiful look and feel. Round tables were covered with black velvet tablecloths. The tables were decorated with lots of candles, strands of pearls, bowler hats and of course candelabra with black dinner candles. Black and white feathers rounded off the look and feel. Delicate glass base plates and beautifully folded napkins with printed napkin décor completed the look.

The guests loved the entertainers, Werner and Paulo. They were fabulous! The music alternated between soft background music at pre-drinks to a more live show at dinner. And when Werner was the DJ, the clients danced the night away. On Sunday morning, after an early breakfast, the guests boarded the bus and were transferred back to the airport.

Enough time was give to the guests to be at leisure. They could enjoy the great activities Hermanus and surrounds had to offer.
